For a bug report, include the app version (Settings → About), your iPhone model and iOS version, what you did, and what happened. Do not attach a recording unless we ask — and only if you are comfortable sending it, since it leaves your device when you do.

Recording and transcription

How long can a recording be?

There is no imposed limit. Longer audio takes proportionally longer to process and uses more storage. Transcription continues while the app is in the background, and a Live Activity shows progress.

Transcription seems stuck or slow.

Processing runs entirely on the device, so it is bound by the phone. Keep the device unlocked and plugged in for long jobs. iOS will slow or pause background work when the device is hot or the battery is low. If a job actually failed, it appears as failed in the queue and can be retried.

The speaker labels are wrong.

Several tools help, in increasing order of effort:

Rename a speaker once and the label updates across the transcript.
Check the corrections list — the app flags uncertain speaker hand-offs as suggestions for you to accept or dismiss.
Merge or split segments manually (Pro).
If you know how many people are in the recording, set the speaker count before generating; a pinned count is far more accurate than a guess.
Overlapping speech is the hardest case. Segments with detected crosstalk are marked so you know where to look.

Names and jargon come out misspelled.

Add them to a custom word list (Pro). The app then swaps sound-alike mistakes for your terms during processing. For a transcript you already have, run “Language Fixes (AI)” from the transcript menu — keep that screen open while it runs, since Apple Intelligence is throttled in the background.

Can I use a different transcription engine?

Yes, with Pro. Settings → Models downloads an alternate engine; pick the active one there and select the engine in your generation settings. If a selected engine's model is not downloaded, the app tells you rather than failing silently. Model files are large — download on Wi-Fi.

Voice ID

How do I enroll a speaker?

Two ways: record a short sample in Settings, or long-press a segment in a transcript and choose “Save as Voice Sample,” then trim the clip. Clean, single-speaker audio of at least a few seconds works best.

A speaker isn't being recognized.

Add another sample from a different recording, and avoid clips flagged with overlapping speech. Matching needs a few seconds of that person's speech in the new recording. If “Auto Identify speakers” is off, only the speakers you explicitly selected are matched.

Is my voiceprint sent anywhere?

No. It is computed and stored on your device. See the privacy policy.

Your data

Where are my files?

In the app's folder in the iOS Files app, organized by project. You can copy them out at any time. Private projects are stored separately and stay locked behind Face ID.

I deleted something by mistake.

Check the recycle bin. Deleted recordings, transcripts, and segments are kept for 30 days before permanent removal.

A recording shows as missing.

That means the audio file moved or was deleted outside the app — usually in Files. Put it back and the warning clears on the next launch. The transcript itself is unaffected; only playback needs the audio.

How do I move everything to a new iPhone?

Restore an encrypted iPhone backup on the new device — app data comes with it. Alternatively, export a full backup archive from Settings and import it on the new device.

How do I export a transcript?

From the transcript's share menu. Plain text and Markdown are free; JSON, SRT, and WebVTT require Pro.

Subscription

What does Pro cost?

$2.99 per month or $29.99 per year, each with a one-week free trial, and Family Sharing for up to five people. Prices in other regions are set by Apple's equivalents.

I paid but Pro features are locked.

Tap “Restore Purchases” on the Pro screen while signed into the Apple Account used for the purchase. If you subscribed through Family Sharing, make sure sharing is enabled for that Apple Account.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com — we cannot issue them.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Nothing is deleted. Recordings and transcripts stay, and stay readable and exportable as text or Markdown. Pro-only actions stop being available.

AI features are missing

Summaries and AI language fixes require Apple Intelligence, which needs a supported device with the feature enabled and set up in iOS Settings. Everything else in Scribe-ly works without it.

Recording others

Laws on recording conversations vary, and in some places every participant must agree first. Enrolling someone else's voice creates biometric data about them. Ask first.
